JA Kenya – A Brief History

  • Initiated in 1999 by JA International with a seed grant from the Procter and Gamble Company

  • Chairman: Mr. William Lay, Managing Director Genera

  • Legally registered in Kenya

  • Overseen by a Voluntary Board of Directors and Operations Committee

  • Staffing – three paid employees, and three interns

  • More than 1,000 classroom volunteers involved

  • Over 35,000 students reached

  • In 40 high schools: 26 in Nairobi, 8 in Mombasa, 5 in Kapsabet, 1 in Kakamega, and 1 in Bomet
