A Three-Year Partnership for Change
Barclays
Africa has forged an alliance with Junior Achievement International
(JAI) to invest in Junior Achievement’s education programs.
The main
objectives of the partnership are to:

Expand the pool of youngsters who are grounded in the principles of
market economies
-
Provide them with the skills which will adequately prepare them for
higher education and more especially, the world of work
-
Sensitize
youngsters to the topical issues of the day with special emphasis on
HIV/AIDS.
Barclays’ Commitment to Junior Achievement Africa
Barclays
Bank will pay JAI £300,000 for 3 years at £100,000 per annum
-
For
incorporating HIV/AIDS awareness, selected countries will receive an
extra £1 per student
reached up to £10,000
-
£30,000 a year for 3 years to create Junior Achievement centres in
Mauritius, Seychelles, Zambia and
-
£20,000 a year for 3 years as seed money to create a Regional Centre
for JAI Africa (based in Ghana)

In
Kenya, Barclays Bank and Junior Achievement announced their alliance on
17 February 2004.
Barclays will invest of Kshs 4.5 million for 3 years (2004-2006) at Kshs
1.5 million per annum. This grant will cover the costs of printing
classroom materials, volunteer recruitment and training, awareness,
monitoring and evaluation.
Other Junior Achievement Africa Member Nations in the partnership are
Botswana, Ghana, Tanzania, Zimbabwe and South Africa.
